The fun in PR :)

 A challenging, yet exciting profession!

The fun that the PR industry presents:

Now that we're all clued up about what public relations is, I thought that maybe I should throw in a bonus feature and give some information on what exactly created some hype around PR as a popular career choice, which is the fun within the industry as well as some challenges the industry presents. As a student I obviously haven't entered industry myself but I know for a fact that public relations practitioners are not a bunch of boring ol' grey suits!

The dynamic nature of public relations allows it to stay relevant in any business context, the creative, strategic thinking in public relations with these features a niche can be formed. A job
in PR also means stability, PR ranks at the top of many global career polls and poses to be an industry that is undergoing constant growth. You’ll never be bored in public relations, trust me on this one! It is an ever-evolving industry and the fast-paced environment meaning that you will never be stagnant. From social media marketing to event planning, to media training and beyond—the creative, strategic and tactical work you might do is never the same on any given day. If you thrive on variety, this career is perfect for you!

Marketing, advertising, promotion, sales and public relations disciplines are highly integrated thus it is not one-dimensional as a career. You are frequently learning in the public relations industry as new challenges are posed daily. Public relations is an industry that arouses a lot of curiousity. Whether conducting research for a new project, trouble shooting a client issue or interacting with a dizzying cast of characters (colleagues, clients, journalists, consumers, etc.), you become smarter and more aware of the world every day.

As exciting as the profession is, it also poses some challenges...

Challenges facing the PR industry

The industry is all that and a bag of chips! However, it is challenging as ever! The industry faces a lot of stereotypes because of how it is misconceived an just another form of propaganda, we gradually find ourselves moving from that little notion as more and more people are getting an idea of what PR really is. Credibility is another challenge that PR people face because everyone think they can do PR and journalists find themselves swaped with press realeses from various PR people, of which some might not even be prefessionals so it might be hard to tell what is real and what is not real, I don't even wanna get started with the issue of ethics *hippo yawn*. Unlike in marketing, measuring the impact of PR proves to be a challenge because of its untangable nature measuring the value of PR effort can be a problem at times. Gaining credibility is not easy in industry. These are some of the cons that PR has but they do not discredit it as a favourable career path, in this case the good definitely outweighs the bad and PR proves to be a pleasurable industry to be a part of.
